Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Bonseki, Inc. ("Bonseki," "we," "us") collects, uses, and shares information through Frothy: our websites at tryfrothy.com and app.tryfrothy.com, our desktop app (the "App"), and related services (together, the "Service"). It applies to applicants, contributors, and visitors. It also explains what we do with information about other people who appear in recordings (Section 9).
The short version: Frothy records your computer use while you choose to record. We use those recordings to run the Service and pay you, and we license and sell them to other companies, including to train and evaluate AI. Buyers never get your name or email. You control when recording happens, and you're responsible for not recording things you shouldn't (see the Terms).
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Application: your name, email address, what kind of computer you use, and your description of the work and tools you'd record.
- Account: your Google account email and Google account ID when you sign in with Google. We only ask Google for your email and basic sign-in identity.
- Agreements: the dates and versions of the Terms and Privacy Policy you accepted, with the device, app version, IP address and browser or app details at that moment.
- Answers and feedback: your answers to questions in the App, skipped questions, ratings of questions, and messages you send us (including problem reports).
- Payment details: your Venmo username, your cash-out history, and tax information if we ask for it.
- Language preference.
Recordings (only while you're recording)
While a recording session is running and not paused, the App collects:
| What | Details |
|---|---|
| Screen | Images of up to three displays, about one per second, plus text read from them on your computer. Frothy's own windows are excluded. |
| Microphone audio | Only if you turn it on. This can include other people's voices. |
| Computer audio | Only if you turn it on: all sound your computer plays, such as the other side of a call. |
| App and window activity | The front app's name, window titles, browser page addresses (Safari, Chrome-based browsers, Firefox), and window position. |
| Mouse and keyboard activity | Click positions and the on-screen label of the item clicked, scrolling, how often the mouse moves, and the type of key pressed (letter, space, enter, backspace, navigation) or named shortcuts (like Cmd+Tab). We do not record which characters you type. |
| Session details | Start, pause, resume, and stop times; which microphone or speakers were in use; recording errors. |
We scrub recordings before they're sold or used to train AI. Anything on your screen or in your audio while you record is captured as it is, including emails, messages, documents, customer records, and other people's information. Before recordings are sold or used to train AI, we remove personal and sensitive information. Scrubbing can miss things, so pause for anything private or sensitive.
Information collected automatically
- Device and App: App version, operating system, a device credential that links the App to your account, and upload and diagnostic data.
- Usage: sign-in times, recording time, upload status, earnings, and the pay rates that applied to each session.
- Cookies: we use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in and remember your language. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies.
2. How we use information
We use information to:
- run the Service: review applications, create accounts, sign you in, receive and store recordings, and provide support;
- pay you: calculate verified recording time and answered questions, and send cash outs;
- understand recordings and ask you questions: we process recordings (including turning speech into text and reading screen text) and send excerpts, such as sampled screen images, screen text, and speech transcripts, to AI model providers to work out what you were doing and what to ask you (see Section 3);
- prepare data products: review, label, describe, and organize recordings, and remove personal and sensitive information from them;
- license and sell data: see Section 4;
- market the Service: we may use excerpts of recordings in marketing, demos, and on our website, only after removing personal and sensitive information such as names, faces, contact details, and account or customer data, using automated and human review;
- keep the Service safe and fair: detect fraud, fake or automated activity, and violations of our Terms;
- improve the Service; and
- meet legal obligations, including tax, and enforce our rights.
3. Who we share information with to run the Service
We use service providers that process information for us under contract:
- Hosting and storage: Fly.io (servers in the United States);
- Sign-in: Google;
- AI model providers: routed through OpenRouter to underlying model providers, for transcription and to generate questions. We require these requests to use providers that don't retain the data and don't use it for training;
- Payments: Venmo (PayPal).
4. Licensing and selling recordings
This is a core part of the Service, and it's why we pay you. We license and sell recordings, answers, and data derived from them (such as labels, transcripts, and descriptions) to third parties. These include AI research labs and companies building AI products, which use them to train, fine-tune, and evaluate AI models, including AI that learns to use computers and perform work tasks.
- We never give buyers your name or email address. Recordings are delivered under a contributor ID.
- We scrub recordings before delivery, removing personal and sensitive information such as names, faces, contact details, and account or payment numbers. Scrubbing can miss things, so a recording may still identify you or others.
- Buyers agree not to try to identify contributors, not to resell recordings outside their license, and to keep them secure. We can't control how AI models behave once trained.
You agree to this when you accept our Terms. Under some laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, this counts as a "sale" of personal information.
5. Other sharing
We may also share information:
- for legal reasons: to comply with law or a valid legal request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Bonseki, contributors, or others;
- in a business transfer: as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets; and
- with your permission.
6. How long we keep information
- Recordings and answers: until you ask us to delete them, except data already licensed, sold, or used for training (see Section 8).
- Account and payment records: for the life of your account, then as long as tax and accounting laws require (generally 7 years).
- Declined applications: 12 months.
Recordings stay on your computer until our server confirms it has received them, and are then removed from your computer.
7. Security
We use reasonable safeguards: encrypted connections (HTTPS), access limited to people who need it, and checks that each uploaded file arrived intact. No system is perfectly secure.
8. Your choices and rights
- Control recording: you choose when to start, pause, and stop, and whether to include microphone and computer audio. Screen recording is always included in a session.
- Access, correct, or delete: email contact@bonseki.com to ask for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it. We can't recall data already licensed, sold, or delivered to a third party, or already used to train a model.
- Withdraw consent: you can stop recording and close your account at any time. This stops future collection; see above for data already shared.
- State privacy rights: depending on your state (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, or Texas), you may have additional rights, such as to know what we've shared, to opt out of certain uses, and to appeal our decision. We won't discriminate against you for using them.
We'll respond within 30 days, and may need to verify your identity first.
9. People who appear in recordings
Contributors may capture information about other people, such as someone on a call, a name in an email, or a customer record. Our Terms require contributors to have permission and consent before recording others. If you believe you appear in a Frothy recording without your consent, email contact@bonseki.com with as much detail as you can. We'll make reasonable efforts to find and delete it, subject to the limits in Section 8.
10. Children
The Service is only for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child's information has been recorded, contact us and we'll delete it.
11. Where we operate
Frothy is currently available only to people in the United States, and our servers are in the United States.
12. Changes
We may update this policy. If a change is material, we'll notify you in the App or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect.
